Tim is a freelance writer, with services for hire to anyone who's interested.  His specialisation is script writing in all its many forms (sketches, plays, sitcoms, etc) although he has also been employed to do a host of other things, as and when called for.  He's always willing to consider new challenges so if you have a proposal, don't hesitate to get in touch:

The Story so far...

TV

-Commissioned to write a thirteen episode sitcom series. (2005)  As of the beginning of 2008 the series had been translated, put through the review process and recommended for production.  It is understood that the necessary finance is now being raised to film the sitcom.

Radio

         -Provided material for the topical sketch show, 'Tilt'.  (2008)

Writing for stage

         -'Beauty & the Beast', pantomime, toured schools across England. (2009)

         -'Off Target', pantomime, toured schools across England.  (2008)

 

-Sketches for the annual, UK-wide,  ‘Bible Sunday’ event.  (2005-09)  

 

-Tim is frequently employed to write and produce drama sketches to illustrate the various services, meetings and courses which the Church runs. (2002-ongoing).

 

-Sketches on a Christmas related theme.  (2006)

          -Performed by and at 'The Broadway', Barking.

 

  • 'Off Target'.  (2008-09)

        -Performed by Alligator Theatre in primary schools across England.

 

  • 'An Operation of the Heart'.  (2008)

          -Performed by The People's Playhouse (as part of 'Thrice as Nice' new writing festival), Southhill Park, Bracknell.

 

  •  'Captive Audience'.  (2008)

-Performed by Wing & a Prayer Productions at the Oakwood Centre, Woodley.  Co-directed by and starring Tim Crooks.

 

  • 'Essential Beauty Treatement'. (2007)

-Performed by Over Our Head Players, 6th Street Theater, Racine, WI, USA. 

 

-Performed by Wycliffe Drama Group (as part of East Reading Festival), The Warehouse, Reading.  Directed by Tim Crooks. 

 

  • '48 Hours in Jericho'.  (2005)

-Performed by Wycliffe Drama Group (as part of East Reading Festival), The Warehouse, Reading.  Co-directed by and starring Tim Crooks.

 

Through his work for The Bible Society and other groups, Tim's sketch material is performed in Churches throughout the United Kingdom on a regular basis.

 

Competition Successes

 

        -One of 10 finalists out of 85 for debut debut, 'Home Truths.'

 

  • Joint Winner:  "Thrice as Nice", new play festival (The People's Playhouse, Bracknell), 2008.
          -'An Operation of the Heart'; one act romantic comedy.
 
  • Short listed:      "Royal Tapes", sketch competition (BBC Radio 5), 2007.
-'Royal Zoo'; listed out of over 700 entries for just 5 places.

 

  • Short listed:      "Joining sword and pen", play competition (Babes with Blades, IL, U.S.A.), 2007.

-'Somewhere in the Middle'; the only play by a male author on a shortlist of 5.

 

  • Short listed:      "Chaingang", short story competition (BBC 7), 2007.

-Entry for the chain story, 'Picture This'.

 

  • Finalist:             "Snowdance", 10 Minute Play Festival (Over Our Head Players, WI, U.S.A.), 2007. 

-'Essential Beauty Treatment'; one of 12 finalists out of 134.  The only non-U.S. finalist.

Acting Work

Tim's main professional focus to date has been on writing but he is a keen performer (winning Reading University Drama Society's 'Best Actor' award in 1997) and has done some professional acting work (but he'd love to do more!).

  • Wing and a Prayer Productions

          -Tim played the part of Lloyd in two performances of his play, 'Captive Audience'. (2008)

 

  • Reading University Counselling Service

        -Selected to be the voice of RUCS' relaxation CDs. (2006) 

 

  • The British and Foreign Bible Society

        -Played one of the characters in his sketch, 'Interrupted Reading', which was made available online for use in Churches. 

 

Of course, Tim has also done an extensive amount of amateur acting.

       -'Chapterised' the BBC drama, 'The Passion', ahead of its release onto DVD. (2008)

          -Created a series of youth group sessions based on the BBC series, ‘The Miracles of Jesus’. (2007)  

          -Helped to created resources for Bible Sunday. (2007)
